The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and the central role food plays in our society

Amidst the excitement in the anticipation of the Queen’s Jubilee Bank Holiday, this Food Matters Live episode takes a moment of pause, to reflect on food, and the central role it plays in our society during times of celebration.

The podcast looks at the parallels between the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and those that took place at the Queen’s coronation in 1953.

Today, like then, with food prices rising and the cost of living crisis deepening, it’s important to remember that the celebrations are taking place at a time of hardship for many.

In 1953, we were still a year away from the end of rationing after the Second World War.

Food is fundamental to all that we do; it sustains us, and, it unites us.
