Waitrose & Partners drops best before dates on hundreds of fresh food products in an attempt to tackle food waste.

This vital move follows Marks and Spencer's recent announcement that they too would be removing best before dates for more than 300 fruit and vegetable items. Furthermore, Tescos, Morrisons and Co-op have also taken action on best before dates in recent times.

According to the charity “Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP), a whopping 4.5 million tonnes of edible food is thrown away each year.

“Wasting food feeds climate change and it costs people money. Best before dates on fruit and veg are unnecessary and create food waste because they get in the way of people using their judgement when food is still good to eat.” Catherine David, Director of Collaboration and Change at WRAP.

We here at Vertical Future look forward to even more positive action being taken in the coming months!
